He married Ellen Rose Malliet on Jan. 8, 1952 in Green Bay. She preceded him in death in March 1985.
He was raised in Green Bay, and served in the United States Marine Corps from December 1947 to September 1948.
He lived in southern United States where he worked mining mica.
Mr. Long returned to Wisconsin, where he was a heavy equipment operator, over the road truck driver and owned and operated a plumbing business. He moved to Lily, WI in 1988, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a daughter Renee Meeks, Caledonia WI;
two sons: Scott (wife Kristin) Long, Wauwatosa, WI and Robin Long of Ely, MN;
five grandchildren: Marvin Meeks III, Scott Long Jr., Melissa Long, Ryan and Heather Long,
a great granddaughter Briana Long;
three sisters: Marilyn McClain of Mountian, WI; Patsy (Henry) Delacensarie of Waukesha, WI and Shirley (William) Hogan of Green Bay, WI;
and his companion for 18 years, Rose Stone;
and special nephew Robby McClain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ellen, one brother Jimmy and two sisters: Mary Ellen Whitcomb and Betty Jane Taylor.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Antigo Veterans will conduct military rites at the funeral home following services. Visitation will be Friday 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday one hour prior services. Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery in Bear Creek, WI.
