Gary Dale Gardner, 75, of Byhalia, Mississippi, formerly of Arcola, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at his residence.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, at the Arcola Cemetery with Pastor Bob Silvanik officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Friday at Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola.
Gary was born July 6, 1945 in Decatur the son of Dale and Mary Craig Gardner. He was united in marriage to Ruby Allison on June 23, 1979 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Gardner of Byhalia, Mississippi; sons, Gregory Lee (Jennifer) Gardner; 2 daughters, Kendal Ann Gardner and Lois Ann Doss; 4 grandchilden; 1 great grandchild; sister, Becky (Richard) Harrer; 2 brothers, Ron (Darla) Gardner; and Kent (Michelle) Gardner.
Gary graduated from Arcola High School Class of 1963. He worked for Ingram Barge of Chicago which transported sanitary waste from Chicago to Fulton County. He loved his job as a River Boat Captain on the mighty Mississippi. He then returned to Mattoon where he and Ruby owned and operated a trucking company for many years. After retiring from the trucking business, he and Ruby moved to Byhalia, Mississippi where they enjoyed being close to family.
Gary was a member of the Arcola Masonic Lodge and proudly served his country in the Army Reserves for 7 years.
Gary loved the son "Dancing In The Sky". His family hopes he is now dancing in the sky.
