Melissa Kay Mitchell, 36, of Martinsville, gained her angel wings on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 10:23 pm at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital after a courageous battle with medulloblastoma and COVID-19. Melissa was born to Darrell and Dianne (Dietrich) Park on September 12, 1984 in Decatur, Georgia.

Growing up in Monrovia, Indiana, Melissa graduated from Monrovia High School with the Class of 2003. She furthered her education at Ivy Tech Community College, receiving an associate degree in accounting and graduating with the Class of 2007. She was employed with IU Health since February 1, 2010. Most recently working as a medical receptionist at IU Health Morgan Hospital Women’s Office. She attended and was a member of the Poplar Grove United Methodist Church in Wilbur.

Melissa enjoyed opportunities to take trips to Pennsylvania to visit family, trips to the beach with her husband and daughters, baking and shopping. She was an avid animal lover and adored her two dogs, Bailee and Skylar.

Melissa leaves behind her loving family including her loving husband and number one best friend, whom she married June 13,2009, Justin P. “JP” Mitchell and their two precious daughters, Aubree Lyn and Sadie Mae Mitchell of Martinsville; father and step-mother, Darrell and Terry Park of Carroll, Maine; mother, Dianne Park and longtime companion, Bill Roberts of Clayton, IN; sisters, Elizabeth Zimmerman (Brad) and children, Vanessa and Hanna of Ashland, PA and Jennifer Sillivent (Nick) and children, Tiffany and Chad of Paragon, IN; step-brother, Brian Pulak (Dana) and children, Bradyn, Bryson, Maddie and Ella of Windsor, MO; grandparents, Wayne and Jo Park of Montgomery, IN; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles; in-laws, Jim and Donna Sigo and Doug Mitchell and finance, Cindy Huff of Martinsville, IN and their families and many friends that loved and adored her.

She was preceded in death by one child; grandparents, Walter and Elizabeth Dietrich; and brother-in-law, Tony Curtis.

Due to COVID-19 visitation and services for Melissa will be by invitation only. She will be laid to rest at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville. Those unable to attend are encouraged to participate via live stream on the funeral home Facebook page at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 10, 2020 at https://www.facebook.com/NealSummersMortuaryInc. Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center has been entrusted with arrangements. Everyone in attendance will be required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing guidelines.

The family encourages memorial contributions to be made to Riley Children’s Foundation specifically for Brain Tumor Research in Melissa K. Mitchell’s name.
