Virgil Vance Dowell was the 5th child of George Weir and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Madden Dowell. When he was 2 yrs old he had an illness which left him deaf, when he was old enough he went to Olathe, Kansas to the Deaf School. About 1938 he married Edith Marie Hedden she died on 16 May 1940 leaving one son Vance Hill Dowell he was a few months old. On 25 May 1942 Virgil married Frieda Bernhardina Katter. Freida was also deaf. They had one daughter Betsy Jean Dowell Wade. Virgil worked Breweries in the St. Louis, Missouri area until he retired. He was a wonderful man, and is greatly missed.
