William Erickson
12/17/1933 - 12/2/2020

William Lee "Bill" Erickson, passed away peacefully at 86 years of age at his home in Fall Creek, Oregon on Dec. 2, 2020. He was the husband of Donna Rae Dixon Erickson. They shared 67 years of marriage together.
Born in Eugene on December 17, 1933, Bill was the son of Erik and Elvie Erickson. He grew up with seven other siblings in the logging communities of Lowell and Lost Creek. He attended elementary and high school at Lowell, receiving his diploma in 1952. He lettered in baseball, football, and basketball (team captain), was the president of the student council, and excelled in journalism, band, and other activities.
Immediately following high school, Bill was drafted into the Army, and was deployed to South Korea near the DMZ for approximately one year. Bill and Donna had their first child (David) while he was overseas. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal of the First Calvary Division in 1955.
Bill was an honest and hard worker throughout his life, at one time holding down two jobs to help his wife Donna earn a bachelor's degree at the University of Oregon while raising two sons. His occupations included plywood at Weyerhaeuser, grocer at Mayfair Market and Oregon Foods, road work with Oregon Department of Transportation, and milk delivery to elementary schools with Darigold. He was also a long-time member of the Lions Club in Springfield.
Bill's primary motivation in life was people; he thoroughly enjoyed family, friends, and strangers. His firm handshake and smile were always genuine. He was also an avid athletic fan of grade school and high school sports (football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, soccer, cross country, softball, dance), and college sports (UofO basketball, football, and wrestling; OSU wrestling and baseball). He was an enormous fan of his children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and their friends during and outside of athletic events. He and Donna also enjoyed traveling the US and the world with friends, or simply visiting with friends and family at their country home in Fall Creek.
He is survived by his wife Donna, as well as two sons and daughters-in-law: Darrell and Stacie (Hanratty) Erickson of Eugene, and Daniel and Michele (Hutson) Erickson of Yakima, WA; Six grandchildren and their spouses: Brennan and Penny (Lemos) Erickson, Ashley Erickson, Nicholas Erickson and Taryn Luna, Hayley Erickson, Andrew and Laura (Ross) Erickson, and Jacob Erickson; three great-grandchildren; sister Deanna (Erickson) Marr; brothers-in-law Keith Marr and Lawrence Dixon; sisters-in-law Eva (Adkins) Erickson, Marilyn (Kreutzer) Erickson, and Marla (Smith) Dixon. Bill was predeceased by his son: David Erickson; parents: Erik and Elvie (Nelson) Erickson; parent-in-laws: Milo and Florence (Durrah) Dixon; brothers and sisters: Evelyn (Erickson) Henderson, Jean (Erickson) Granberg, Robert Erickson, Charles Erickson, Richard Erickson, and Marvin Erickson; brothers-in-law: Herbert Henderson, Alvin Granberg; sister-in-law: Pamela (Witt) Erickson.
Bill's body will be cremated; a celebration of life is planned for the fall of 2021, at which time he will be laid to rest at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
