Madeline Theresa (Nash) Horne passed away on December 6, 2020 at the age of 80.

Madeline was born on January 22, 1940 in New York City to Ellen Mary (Fitzgerald) and Thomas Francis Nash. She grew up in Rego Park and attended St. Agnes high school. Madeline entered the Dominican Order as a novitiate nun for a short time. After she decided the religious order was not for her, she entered and graduated from Thorpe Secretarial school. Madeline then went on to marry Vincent Bernard Horne. They had two children and Madeline was a stay at home mom and wife for many years.

Madeline wore many hats in her day. She was the “Voice of Freeport” for many years working as the switchboard operator for the village. She was a crossing guard and Special Police Officer for the village as well. She held the position of Union President for the CSEA, tirelessly supporting her members and finished her career working for the Town of Hempstead.

Madeline is survived by her brother, Thomas Patrick Nash, her daughter Ellen Mary Horne, her son, Michael Vincent Horne, her son-in-law, Lawrence Kenneth Horne, Jr, and her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Anne (McTernan) Horne.

In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren Kaitlyn Elizabeth, David James, Michael Thomas, Siobhan Patricia, Matthew Lawrence, Joseph Thomas and Brianna Marie. She is predeceased by her parents, granddaughter Anna and former husband, Vincent Horne.

Her wake will be held at the Massapequa Funeral Home North from 4-8 on Thursday, December 10, 2020. Funeral mass will take place at 9:45 at Maria Regina RC Church in Seaford followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery.
