Danny Roger Phillips passed away Thursday, December 3rd, 2020 after a short illness at a local hospital. A resident of Hixson, Tennessee, he was preceded in death by his parents Truman and Margret Phillips of Chattanooga and his infant son Roger Dale Phillips.
He is survived by his beloved wife Brenda and sons Patrick and Dennis Phillips of Hixson Tennessee. Grandsons Christopher and Kevin Phillips, both enlisted in the Navy, Jordan Mellon and Nikki Lockhart, step grandson and step granddaughter. Danny was the oldest of 5 brothers from East Chattanooga. Jackie, (Judy) Michael, (Gail) Richard (Bernice) and David with several nephews and a niece.
Danny graduated at Chattanooga City High in 1964 where he met Brenda Williams. After they married, he joined the US Air Force in 1965 then, after nursing school, the Navy in 1972. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander, served in The Gulf War and was also deployed serving on NATO operations above the Artic Circle in 1981. After retirement in 1993, he joined CHI Memorial in the surgical department until retirement in 2010.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 14, 2020. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M - 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 14, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in his name to the Gary Sinise Foundation at www.garysinisefoundation.org helping veterans, first responders and their families. Love you Dad.
