Antonio S. "Tony" Trejo, 70, of Covington, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at his home. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9 at Penelope Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Woodall officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 8 at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard.
Antonio was born February 19, 1950 in Benavides to Eugenio and Elia (Saenz) Trejo. As a youngster growing up, his family moved frequently to different cities and towns all across the state of Texas. Antonio joined the United States Marine Corps as an 18-year old in 1968 and proudly served four years including a three-year tour of duty in Vietnam. He received several medals and awards during his military service including the Purple Heart, the Navy Achievement Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Antonio later worked as a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 25 years. He married Yolanda Luna on July 8, 1974 in Marlin and they lived in several towns in Texas before moving to Covington in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Natalia Trejo and brother-in-law, Richard Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Yolanda (Luna) Trejo of Covington; son, Robert Anthony Trejo and wife, Tanya Marie of Covington, daughter, Sandra Leija and husband, Mario of Crowley; brother, Luis Trejo of Clifton, two sisters Jane Watson and husband, Larry of Penelope and Helen Moore of Temple; five grandchildren, Mario Leija, Jr., Timothy Leija, Hunter Allen-Wayne Trejo, Rylee Ann-Maire Trejo and Robert Anthony Trejo, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews other extended family members.
