Rachel, the fifth of twelve children of Simeon Butters and Elizabeth "Betsey" Eames was born on 4 February 1789 at Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Rachel married Mace Shepard Grinnell (1787-1865), the son of Bailey and Reliance (Spooner) Grinnell on 9 January 1812 at Union, Knox, Massachusetts, which was annexed to Maine in 1820.[1] They had twelve children born at Exeter:
