Thomas Alvin Layton, age 67 of Spring Green, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 3, 2020. He was born on February 6, 1953 to Alvin and Marian (Liegel) Layton.

Tom was a family guy. He was most happy spending time with his wife, three daughters, seven grandchildren, six brothers and sisters and many, many extended family members and in-laws. He wasn’t happy unless everyone around him was having a good time.

Tom was a man of many friends. He was willing to do anything for anyone, which is why he was always involved in the community, whether that was in Blue River in his earlier days or Spring Green most recently. He was an active member of the St. John’s church in Spring Green, the Knights of Columbus, the Jaycees and for 20 years he served as a volunteer fireman for the Spring Green Fire Department where he retired and now is an honorary member.

When not volunteering in the community, he was a man of many hobbies. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was known for his amazing venison jerky and was willing to share his talent with his friends and family and sometimes strangers. He was a competitive man whether that was playing softball, golfing, playing cards, bowling or possibly his favorite, throwing bean bags. He and Marcia enjoyed a love of country music and dancing, which always amazed the onlookers.

He was married to the love of his life, Marcia A. (Moore) Layton for 47 years. They enjoyed traveling together, especially their annual trip up north. They doted on their grandchildren and loved spending time with them, whether that was playing with them in their basement or attending one of their many extracurricular events. He will be missed by many.

Tom is survived by his wife, Marcia, three daughters, Janelle (Brian) Pogodzinski, Rebecca (Nathan) Wiegel, Michelle (Jeremy) Winkers, along with grandchildren Kaylee, Elise, Sophia, Sydney, Brylie, Beckham and Boston. Further survived by six siblings, Mary Jane (Jerry) Dietzman, Marcia (Paul Schoepp) Thompson, Nancy (Butch) Passehl, Greg (Nancy) Layton, Patrick (Lori) Layton, Daniel (Carolyn Klewin) Layton. Also leaves behind his mother in law, Florence Moore as well as his Moore in-laws, Kathy (Joseph) Stadele, Phillip (Lucy) Moore, Allen (Ginny) Moore, James (Elizabeth) Moore, Cyril (Laurie) Moore, Brooke Moore, Rodney (Allison) Moore, Susan (John) Klein, Elaine (Thomas) Bader. Special godchildren, Brian Moore and Kimberly Layton along with many loved nieces and nephews. Further survived by a special uncle, Vern (Bernie) Liegel and aunts Delores Liegel and Marcie Liegel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Marian Layton, father in law Donald Moore, Brother in law, Daniel Thompson, Godparents William and Sylvia Laubmeier, along with many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
