Douglas Albert Palmer
“The Greatest Generation” has lost another of its members. Douglas was born on the family homestead in Britton, Michigan August 29, 1919, the son of Willis A and Inabell (Youngs) Palmer. On October 26, 1941 he married Audrey Downing who survives. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1937. He was one of the first draftees of World War II and spent more than four and a half years in the U. S. Army. He was a Lieutenant in the 85th Infantry Division and was wounded in action while serving in Italy. He was a long time member of American Legion Post 340, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Purple Heart Association. Douglas was a prominent Britton farmer and also retired from Tecumseh Products in 1976 moving to Florida in 1980. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters Susan (Terry) Faust of Tecumseh, MI, Brenda Branham of Cantonment, FL and son Lynn (Christine) Palmer of Delafield, WI. Surviving also are seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Phyllis (Robert) Hamilton and a beloved son-in-law Barry Branham. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be at a later date in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the DAV, or charity of donor’s choice.
