Myrtle “Bible” Smith, age 89, of Erwin, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at the Center on Aging and Health.

A native of Washington County, Myrtle is a daughter of the late Cecil and Dora Hannah (Lockner) Shorter.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church and a volunteer for Care and Share.

In addition to her parents, Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband: Emerson Smith; sons: Benny Smith and Luther Jackson Smith; grandson: Dakota Smith; and sister: Thelma Smith.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses and staff of Center on Aging and Health for their loving care during Myrtle’s time there.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Myrtle “Bible” Smith in a graveside committal service to be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Bumpass Cove Cemetery. Reverend Larry Wiley will officiate. Due to COVID-19 an open visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until time to leave for the cemetery. Those attending the committal service should meet at Valley Funeral Home by 2:00 pm to go in procession. Serving as active pallbearers will be: Jason Smith, Carl Harris, Dave Byrd, Dewayne Casey, Carson Woodward, Tim Miller, Daniel Smith and Carl Mac. Honorary pallbearers will be Carter Miller, Ethan Smith, Brandon Smith, Derek Smith, Mark Smith and Samuel Luke Smith.
