Upon graduation from high school, Jewell attended college with a mindset for education. On September 7, 1963, she married David Allen Anderson in South Carolina. Jewell loved children and had a passion for teaching at the kindergarten level. After she retired, she continued tutoring children, aiding them in furthering their education. She was a treasure to her students and their parents as well, who knew her affectionately as “Miss Jewell” or “J. J.”
Jewell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sanger. She had a servant’s heart for the Lord and made it her mission to care for people who were sick, in the nursing home, or homebound. She took food and ran errands for those in need. Even as her health was failing, Jewell made goody bags for the nursing home patients and the shut-ins.
Jewell is preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; one sister, Mary Foschee; and two brothers, Gerald Goodman and Oscar Goodman. Survivors include her two daughters, Rachel Anderson of Lewisville and Audrey Anderson Bryant and husband Bill of Denton; granddaughter, Lauren Bryant Ferguson and husband Blakely of Seattle, WA; two sisters, Voncille McCarson of Columbia, SC and Reneé Chapman of Waterloo, SC; and two brothers Virgil Goodman of Whitmire, SC and Boyce Goodman of Newberry, SC; a host of nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Happy.
