James “Jamie” Carey Rouse, 43, left a void in the hearts of many as he departed this earth to rest with his Savior on Sunday evening, November 29, 2020. Jamie was born in Wayne County to Glenwood Carey and Patricia Dunn Rouse on May 30, 1977.

Jamie’s mama prayed long and hard for a baby boy and was blessed tremendously with his birth. From the beginning, he was sweet, kind, and loving with a dry sense of humor that could make anyone chuckle. When his little sister, Melissa, came along, Jamie took every opportunity to pick on her. As time moved along, being a big brother came naturally as Jamie became Melissa’s protector. Their sibling bond grew stronger with each day that passed.

As a child, Jamie’s interests were found in being a Cub Scout and participating in the Race Car Derby. During his time at Southern Wayne High School, Jamie was a proud member of the FFA and a champion on the wrestling team. As he aged, nothing was more fun than a tractor pull.

A match made in Heaven occurred when Jamie’s daddy and Mindy’s daddy decided to set them up for a date. From the first moment that Jamie saw Mindy, he knew she was the girl he’d marry. Even so, he decided to take it slow, and the two married on June 16, 2007. A year later, their first child came along. Jamie was a devoted helper, looking for ways to serve his family and keeping his wife on her deserved pedestal.

Jamie was content with a small family, but Mindy had longed for a larger one. After their first two children, Jamie prayed for the Lord’s will and realized a third child was in His plan. When child number four came, Jamie knew complete contentment with the addition of a baby girl to their family. Jamie was the best daddy to his kids.

There was a purebred love of tractors in Jamie’s blood. From an early age, he knew what he wanted to be when he grew up, and he and his daddy were able to start Carey Family Farms together. Jamie was the muscle and Glen called the shots. The two were a perfect team, and Glen spent the past few years preparing Jamie for a life of farming.

Church was a commitment that started with Jamie before he was born. He attended church faithfully, even in his mother’s womb, and grew up loving church. He instilled the same priority into his children and ensured that his family had their seat in church at Bethel United Methodist every Sunday. As a longtime member at Bethel UMC, Sunday School and Worship were expected and anticipated each week for Jamie and his family. His devotion to his church was exhibited even more with his willingness to be the only man serving on the church Pastor-Parish relations committee.

Proud to serve his community, Jamie spent much of his life in service with the Seven Springs Fire Department. He was a captain with the department, having served 26 years. He began as a teenager as a Junior Fireman and remained throughout his adult life. He also served as a paramedic for several years before marriage, and held membership on the Wayne County Farm Bureau Board.

A service to honor and celebrate Jamie’s life will be held Friday, December 4, 2020, at 2 p.m., at the Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Committal will follow at the Quinn Family Cemetery at Daly’s Chapel Church in Seven Springs. Family will receive friends immediately following the visitation and other times at the home.

In addition to his parents, Jamie is survived by his loving wife, Mindy; children, Payton Carey Rouse, Pearson James Rouse, Perkins Wayne Rouse, and Paitley Lauren Rouse; sister, Melissa Van Houten and husband Mark, and their sons, Liam and Beckett; in-laws, Wayne and Deborah Rouse; brother-in-law, Jordan Rouse and wife, Emily, and their sons, Jackson and Channing; and his beloved canine companions Maelee and Jaida.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jamie’s memory may be made in his children’s honor to the Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department Benefit Fund for their future endeavors, at PO Box 116, Seven Springs, NC 28578.
