He was born on February 28, 1936 in Buncombe County to the late Claude Jennings Hardin of Canton, North Carolina, and the late Grace Earls Hardin Severt of Alarka, North Carolina.
Mr. Hardin honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was rarely seen not wearing his U.S. Navy Hat. Earl’s professional career was being a dedicated employee at Little Champion in Waynesville where he retired after 45 years of loyal service. He was a member of the Lion’s Club, the Royal Mountaineer CB Club, and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge - Scottish Rite. Earl loved Canton High School / Pisgah High School Football and rarely missed a game. In his spare time, he served as a coach for the YMCA youth football teams and beamed with pride and joy when one of them won the state championship.
Mr. Hardin held a strong faith and was a member of and served on the building committee for the new Dutch Cove Independent Missionary Baptist Church from the Little Rock Church. He had also served as Choir Director there for several years. Earl’s delightful personality, his sense of humor, and his infectious laugh will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years who was the love of his life, Ruby Jolene Turpin Hardin; his daughter, Lee A. Hardin of Canton; his sons, David J. Hardin and his wife Kris Hardin of Sacramento, California, Allen J. Hardin and his partner Keri Wise of Fletcher; his grandchildren, Samantha Moody, Taylor Hardin, Logan Hardin, Calaya Wise, Mia Hardin, Layland Wise, Cheyanne Wise, and Colton Wise; great-grandchildren, Auria Hardin, and McKinley Phillips.
The funeral services will be announced by Crawford / Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
