Sioux City- Darlene E. Hill, 89, of Sioux City, died on Feb. 7, 2017, at a local care center.
Cremation rites will be accorded. No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Darlene, the daughter of Franz and Jeannette (Stevenson) Hendrickson, was born on June 19, 1927, in Sioux City. Darlene graduated from Central High School in 1946.
In 1947, she was united in marriage to Howard C. Curtis in Sioux City. To this union three children were born. The family made their home in Rockwell City, Iowa. Howard died unexpectedly on Nov. 4, 1959. Darlene continued to live in Rockwell City until moving back to Sioux City in the mid 1960s.
Darlene worked as a switchboard operator for Northwestern Bell for several years and then at First National Bank until her retirement in 1989.
On March 3, 1979, Darlene married Robert Hill.
During her retirement years, she and Robert enjoyed traveling. Above all Darlene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by one son, Barry Curtis of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; two grandchildren, Adam (Bonnie) Curtis of Gretna, Neb., and Andrea (Todd) French of Murray, Ky.; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin Curtis and Cabot and Joelle French.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Howard Curtis and Robert Hill; one daughter, Connie Curtis; and one son, Doug Curtis.
