Vincent Bernard Sanders was born on October 25, 1962 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the fourth child of Hosea and Garrett Ann Sanders. He was a funny little boy who could charm his way into and out of any situation.
Vincent was a gifted athlete, a standout in baseball, football and track. At Arkadelphia High School he ran a sub-10 seconds in the 100-yard dash and was a star running back on the 1979 AAA state champion Badger football team. Vincent was extremely popular in high school and was voted president of the graduating class of 1981.
Vincent attended Henderson State University, where he ran track and pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in the spring of 1983. "Romeo" then transferred to Ouachita Baptist University, graduating with a degree in business.
A natural salesman, Vincent was a successful account executive for such companies as TCBY, The Dallas Morning News, RCN Cable, Comcast, Orkin, N'Digo MagaPaper and others. At heart he was an entrepreneur. He started a beauty supply company in Arkadelphia and launched several other ventures in Dallas, Chicago and Atlanta, most notably AKS Consulting (named for his daughter Autumn Katrice Sanders).
To describe Vincent as an avid sports fan is putting it mildly. He lived for sports.
He could recite stats and back stories for teams and athletes from high school to the pros...in virtually any sport imaginable. Somehow he believed he could still score the winning touchdown or break the tape on the track. Be the hero!
Vincent was also a good cook. (He would say a GREAT cook!) He learned the basics from his mother and father, but he was always experimenting--with mixed results.
He called himself a grill-master, who dreamed of one day being a Black version of Guy Fieri.
An impeccable dresser, Vincent was always conscious of his style and cared deeply about his professional and personal appearance. He scoured the internet to find "fashion at a bargain!"
Vincent battled a number of health issues, leading to his disability retirement several years ago. He made his transition on September 3, 2020, following his father
Hosea (2003) and his mother Garrett Ann (July 28, 2020).
He is survived by his beloved daughter Autumn as well as siblings Hosea Lynn, Delton Ray, Barbara Ann (Wheeler) and Victor Louis.
Vincent also leaves his nieces, nephews and cousins who adored him. He is remembered with love by a multitude of friends, frats and former co-workers who will always smile at the mention of his name.
And, of course, there's his sidekick Scooby, the little rescue dog who was his constant companion.
Vincent was a life-long member of Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and a fervent believer in the Word of The Lord.
The world is a much less colorful place without Vincent in it, but we take comfort in the assurance that Momma is waiting with pork chops, greens and jokes; while Daddy rejoices that his ESPN buddy is joining him once again. -The Sanders Family
