W. B. HAWKINS
Wiley Bluford Hawkins was born in Washington County, Virginia, July 27, 1854, and departed this life October 21, 1936, being 82 years, 2 months and 24 days of age. On November 16, 1878, he was united in marriage to Maggie Carr of Baywood, Virginia. To this union were born eleven children, ten sons and one daughter, all of whom are living except two sons who tied [died] at a tender age. Those left to mourn are the loving companion, Mrs. Hawkins, and Mrs. Alvin Morris and Emmett Hawkins of Cedaredge; Will, George and Bob of Austin: Charlie of Telluride; Lester of Battle Creek, Neb.; Arnie and Worley of Los Angeles, Calif.; 30 grand children and 13 great grand children, and a host of friends. In 1902 Mr. Hawkins and family moved from the state of Virginia to Colorado. Only a few days after their arrival in this state they located on the ranch southwest of Cedaredge, where they made their home until about nine years ago when he and Mrs. Hawkins moved to a small acreage near Eckert, where they have since resided. When a young man Mr. Hawkins united with the Primitive Baptist church at Baywood, Virginia, and has been a devout member of that faith until death called him to his final rest. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Cedaredge. The sermon was spoken by Rev. Frye of Colorado Springs, an old time friend and former pastor of the deceased. Burial made in the Cedaredge Cemetery.
