Lewis-Stone, Carolyn 5/4/1948 - 11/7/2020 Ann Arbor, Michigan

It is with great sorrow to announce that Carolyn Lewis-Stone has passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on November 7, 2020 at the age of 72.

She was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky to the late George A. Stone and Nannie M. Lewis whom she loved dearly. She was an only child.

In 1970, Carolyn graduated from Kentucky State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in English literature. She then moved to Ann Arbor where she completed her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 1974. She began her career as a clinical social worker at the Kentucky State Department of Child Welfare where she provided support with foster care and protective services, Monroe County Community Mental Health Center, and the Mental Health Clinic at the University of Michigan Student Health Services.

Carolyn remained in Ann Arbor throughout the rest of her life where she worked for the University of Michigan as a mental health clinician at Counseling and Psychological Services and the Center for the Continuing Education for Women. She continued her work as a skilled therapist in her thriving private practice which she began after departing from the University in 1991 and maintained until her untimely death.

Carolyn converted to Catholicism during her young adulthood and attended St. Francis Church in Ann Arbor. Her devotion was reflected in her grace, kindness, and integrity which was evident in her personal and professional relationships.

She was a voracious reader of diverse subjects and a daily consumer of political news, daily devotions, and psychological literature. She was a talented and creative artist expressing herself through skilled writing penning several manuscripts for publication, theatrical productions in which she acted, sang, and played piano; knitting and sewing, and ballroom dancing. Golfing, chess, and hiking were also hobbies of Carolyn. She honed and showcased her many talents in various social, recreational, and professional groups, including the Ann Arbor Civic Theater, Ballroom Chicks, a professional writing group, a professional social group for African American women, the National Association of Social Workers, Huron Valley Women's Golf Club, and the Kentucky Welfare Association.

Carolyn was known for her keen intelligence, steadfast insistence on her privacy and her soothing euphonious voice which was infused with poise. She enjoyed close and intimate relationships with many friends and colleagues over the years. Besides God and her mother, Carolyn's greatest love was that of being a psychotherapist, employing her innate wisdom, intuition, wit, candor, and compassion to foster the healing and growth of many. She is credited with having empowered, embolden, and educated to help change and shape the lives of a plethora of people for over 50 years.

Carolyn will be lovingly remembered by a host of dear friends, colleagues, and clients whose lives she touched and forever changed. In light of the pandemic, a memorial mass celebrating Carolyn's life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations in Carolyn's memory can be made at https://gf.me/u/zat5n4.
