In 1987, Debbie graduated from Half Hollow Hills High School and went on to earn her master’s degree in English from the University of Buffalo. After graduation, she relocated to Boca Raton, Florida to be close to her sister Karen (Sorkin) Anderson. Shortly thereafter, Debbie began her teaching career and working with special needs children.
In 1997 (on a blind date no less) Debbie met her husband Stephen Fisher in Boca Raton, Florida. It was the start of a true love story and many great adventures. On April 24, 1999, in a fairytale wedding, Debbie and Stephen were married and their adventures continued. While Stephen’s job took them to many places across the country, Debbie always went along for the ride and enjoyed every minute of it. She was a loving, devoted, and supportive wife.
More adventures awaited them. On June 26, 2006 Debbie’s dream came true with the birth of their beautiful daughter, Nicole Marie Fisher. This was Debbie’s true calling in life, to be a mother to Nicole. Debbie was so devoted to her daughter and volunteered endlessly at Nicole’s schools in Florida and Texas. Volunteering at the schools was Debbie’s passion; she was very respected for her efforts.
Debbie will be remembered for so many things, her passion for life and education, her love of adventures with Stephen and Nicole, a loving and supportive friend, sister and daughter. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and best friend to Stephen, and above all else Debbie will be remembered as a great mother first; Nicole was and is her life.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Stephen Fisher; daughter Nicole Marie Fisher; Mother Judith Sorkin; sister Karen (Sorkin) Anderson; and brother Greg Sorkin. A private service will be held for family and close friends.
