Joyce Christina Victoria Whaley, 102, departed this life on December 1, 2020. Joyce was born October 21, 1918 in Ripley, Mississippi to June Grant Timothy and Alice Clark Simmons.

In 1934 at the tender age of 18 Joyce gave her life to Christ and became a member of Triumph the Church of Kingdom of God in Christ. Upon relocating to Springfield, Illinois she became a member of Love and Deliverance where she remained until God called her home.

In 1942 Joyce graduated nursing school at White & White Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Joyce began serving the sick and shut-in immediately and continued until God called her home.

She leaves to cherish memories daughters, Phedosia M. Thomas, Alice D. Pollard (Kenneth Pollard), Lenora C. Criss (Albert Criss), Minerva G. Collins (Christopher Collins) all of Springfield, Illinois. 46 grandchildren, 110 great grandchildren, and 97 great great children and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is proceeded in death by her husband John Daniel Whaley, parents Grant and Alice Simmons, ten siblings, four children, eleven grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Her memory was amazing when asked her best memory as a child she said "My mother made all of my clothes. I had this apron dress that button up the back with red pockets. I wore my high top patent leather shoes that button on the side to my first day of school, I was four years old.”
