Darrel Jackson—son, brother, father and friend—died on Friday November 24, 2017 at his childhood home in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was 29 years old.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mallory Jackson; maternal grandfather, Joe Charles Lindsey; paternal grandparents, Verlee and Mary Harris; uncle, Verlee Harris Jr.; Aunt, Mary Louise Lindsey; great aunts, Geraldine Anderson, Juanita Cooper and best friend Brandon Coleman.

Darrel is survived by his daughter, Camilla Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana; his parents, Carl and Geraldine Thomas of Jonesboro; father, Darrin Martin; his brothers, Johnny Stitts, Damien Stitts and Montello Thomas of Jonesboro; his sisters, TaMae and TaMary Thomas of Jonesboro, Diane Shelton and Chaniqua Martin of Little Rock; maternal grandmother, Robbie Mae Anderson; paternal grandmother, Jacquelyn Jackson; a host of aunts and uncles; his 15 nieces and nephews, and best friends: Drew Kelso, Thomas Sandlin, Damron Thomas, Stephen Smith, AJ Turnage, PJ Pfreimer, Jvon Jacobs, Jeremy Anderson, Darryl Kent, Jeremy Sheard, Emmanuel Cheers and Coach Keith Kelso.

Darrel was born on June 27, 1988 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Darrin Martin and Geraldine Thomas and raised by Carl and Geraldine Thomas. At an early age Darrel developed a passion that would take him far in life. Growing up on the north-side of town in Jonesboro, AR with no money, there were three things to do to stay out of trouble: race each other in the street, play tag football, and play basketball. At the age of 7 his eldest brother Johnny taught him how to properly shoot a basketball and Darrel quickly exceeded expectations. Darrel and his brothers had many 2 on 2 battles in the backyard of 115 N. Drake, and it became clear, very quickly, that this young man was going places. Darrel went on to play basketball from the 4th grade at West School Elementary all the way through college where he graduated with an Associate of Arts degree and a Bachelors in Business. While this is a big part of what will be remembered about him, this is only a fraction of who he was.

Darrel Jackson was something special. Motivation should have been his middle name. Not only did he live it, but he also brought it out of others. He had a smile that would light up any room and cause people to gravitate in whatever direction he was going. He had one of those smiles that would make you feel better just by seeing it in a photo. Most people who have Darrel's traits soon turn arrogant or conceited, but not him. Not Darrel. He always put others before himself. Darrel was the definition of selfless. If you needed anything: money, clothes, shoes, a ride to some place, or to even borrow his car, Darrel would make sure you had what you needed. He always took care of his family and never thought twice about it. To his core, he was his brother's keeper. Darrel's love, passion and good deeds for others will never be forgotten.

Funeral service will be Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Matt Smith officiating. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be Friday, December 1, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in Emerson Memorial Chapel.

Family will receive friends and family at the Repass at Douglas MacArthur Junior High School, 1615 Wilkins Ave, Jonesboro, AR 72401 after the service.
