Johnnie Eugene Thomas
November 11, 1944 - November 30, 2020 (76 years old)
Charlotte, Texas

Johnnie Eugene Thomas was born November 11, 1944 in Dickinson, TX to John & Celia Thomas who proceeded him in death.

He was also proceeded in death by his sisters, Marie Burns, Mae Orem and Nan Barringer, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alton and Annie Belle Gibbs.

Johnnie passed away on November 30, 2020 at home after a hard fought 2-year battle with lung cancer.

Johnnie leaves behind his loving wife and help mate of 51 years, Charlotte Gibbs Thomas; his loving daughter, Misti Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and former colleagues at McCorvey Sheet Metal.

Johnnie graduated from Coldspring's High School in 1963, and soon began his lifelong career in the sheet metal industry at McCorvey Sheet Metal.

He postponed his career in 1965 to serve his country in the United States Army as an aircraft engine mechanic where he was stationed in Germany. When he returned from his service, he resumed his employment at McCorvey Sheet Metal.

Johnnie was well respected in the Sheet Metal Industry for his vast knowledge, work ethic and management skills. The apprentices who learned under his supervision often commented on how much they learned from him and enjoyed working with him on such projects as Minute Maid Park, George R. Brown Convention Center, the home of former President George H.W. Bush, as well as numerous hospitals including Methodist and M.D. Anderson, schools, such as Texas A&M's Reed Arena, and many other commercial projects.

Johnnie "retired" at age 70 but continued to work part time as a quality control specialist until his illness began 2 years ago. Johnnie enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. Farming and ranching with Charlotte were his passion, working with the cattle and horses, and tending to their hay fields. During his downtime, Johnnie enjoyed reading books, often in the Western genre, sometimes reading over 30 books per month on his iPad, as well as solving Sudoku puzzles.

A visitation will be held Thursday, December 3 from 4-7 pm at McNutt Funeral Home located at 1703 Porter Road, Conroe, TX, 77301. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 5 at 1:00 pm at the Copeland Chapel Cemetery, located off of McCaleb Road on Copeland Chapel Road in Montgomery, TX.
