Enlisted in the 7th U.S. Cavalry on 7 April 1873

At the time of the Battle of the Little Big Horn he was private in Company L., which was temporarily under command of James Calhoun as the captain was on detached service. Calhoun was the brother-in-law of the Custer boys and was up with Company L with them. Why Logue was back with the pack train is not known, so he missed the almost total annihilation of his company. He get into the fight when the pack train got up to Reno Hill.
