Leonard Dewayne Lewis was born October 3, 1966 in Glasgow, a son of the late Bruce and Lillian (Cason) Lewis, Jr. Leonard was the youngest of 14 children. When he was young, Leonard moved to Columbia with his father, sisters and brothers. He received his education in the Columbia Public Schools System. During his lifetime, Leonard worked multiple jobs. He was most recently employed and worked for 10 years with the University of Missouri, but had to retire for health reasons. Leonard was a very passionate person. If he could lend a helping hand, he would. Leonard was a mild-mannered man, whom everyone liked when they met him.
Leonard leaves to cherish his memory three children: Taleah, Damarcus and Lillian; step-daughter, Talayla Johnson; two sisters: Mary Elsie Lewis Harris of Columbia and Jacqueline (Ed) Smith of Glasgow; five brothers: Arthur (Laurette) Lewis, Ronald (Arretta) Lewis, Richard Lewis, Stanley (Elaine) Lewis and Luther (Dana) Lewis, all of Columbia; aunt, Helen White of Forest Green and uncle, Jerome Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers: Bruce III, Curtis, Perry, Gary and Anthony “Tony,” and one sister, Marietta “ReeRee.”
A private service for the immediate family only will be held at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow with Rev. Earl Howell officiating. Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be observed. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Lincoln Cemetery in Glasgow.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the funeral home to help cover funeral expenses.
