Vera Mae Gordon, 91, of McAlisterville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 12:58 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.

Born on December 16, 1928 in Van Dyke, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late John P. and Pauline M. McKarchey.

Surviving her are: a son, Ronald J. Gordon and his wife Anna Belle of McAlisterville; daughters, Judith E. Neimond and her husband Anthony of Kellerville, Rhonda Kaegel of Mexico, and Susan D. Kunkel and her husband Matthew of Globe Mills; grandchildren, Thomas Neimond and his wife Annette, Erin Noon and her husband Timothy, Emily Wagner and her husband Andrew, Lyndsay Hart and her husband Seth, Abby Weaver and her husband Wesley, and Paul Kaegel; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John E. Bowen, Jr. in 1966; her second husband, Rev. Forrest B. Gordon in 2010; brothers, John, Harry, Paul, Charles “Buzz” McKarchey; and sisters, Evelyn Bashore, Esther Shearer, and Mary Miller, making her the last of her generation.

Vera served as Pastor’s wife of Bunkertown Church of the Brethren and Free Spring Church of the Brethren for 13 years where her husband, Forrest pastored. She taught bible school, served many years on the Fellowship Meals and Women’s work committees at the church. She also volunteered as a cook for Meals on Wheels, was a WCTU member, served on COB District Board and as an annual Conference delegate among other ministries including assisting her husband Forrest with his gospel magic events, PCAP services all over Pennsylvania, and with Brethren Disaster Relief projects.

Her greatest joys and most blessed gifts were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved prepping holiday meals for her family with her specialties like dump cake and potato candy and will always be remembered for her loving, positive attitude, her ability to strike up an impromptu song, and her love for the Lord.

Public Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, Dec. 4th, 2020 at the Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown with Pastor Terry Smith officiating.

There will be no public viewing or visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Gordon’s memory may be made to the Juniata County Meals on Wheels, 287 Deerville Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to the Children’s Miracle Network, 1249 Cocoa Ave., Suite 115, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852.
