Born in 1844 at Cavan, County Cornan, Ireland
Died 27 November 1866 Soldiers Home, Washington D. C.
Enlisted in the 7th Cavalry on 19 November 1866. By 1876 he was a sargeant in Myle's Keogh's Company I. He did not participate in the Battle of the Little Big Horn, which saved his life, due to the fact tha Company C was annihilated that day. He was on detached service, probably at Powder River Depot or possibly even Fort Abraham Lincoln.
There is a possibility that he was in the military prior to the 7th Cavalry. There were three George Gaffney's that were in the Civil War.
