Roger Dale Thomas, 70, of Nicholasville, KY, passed away peacefully Monday, November 23, 2020, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY. He returned to his heavenly home after a valiant battle with Crohn’s disease. His devotion to his wife and family and his firm belief in God supported him through his final hours.

Roger was born to the late Ben Thomas and Annie Mae Jordan Thomas, of Doerun, GA, on July 5, 1950. He was the second to youngest of 9 children and was loved by his 7 sisters and 1 younger brother. Roger was a member of the U.S. Army from 1971 -1973 and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone.

Roger married his best friend and lifelong companion, Lynn Daugherty Thomas, in 1973 in Nicholasville, KY. They settled in Nicholasville, where Roger was a bus mechanic for the Fayette County School System. Roger and Lynn had 2 children that he was so proud of. He was an active member of Nicholasville Christian Church, and a friend to so many. He was an avid collector of sports cards, knives, and guns. He also loved Nascar. His children and grandchildren were the loves of his life.

Roger is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lynn; his daughter, Myria (Brandon) Ironmonger of Versailles, KY; his son, Stephen (Erin) Thomas of Nashville, TN; his granddaughters, Hannah Ironmonger, June Thomas; his grandson, Arlo Thomas; sisters, Donnis Broome; Linda Connor; Janice (Mack) Grimm; brother-in-laws, John Daugherty, Tom Daugherty; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Carol Rohan, Joyce Carpenter, Betty Elgin, Shirley Boyd; brother, Ben Thomas.

Friends and family may gather with social distancing (masks required) at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home, 207 West Oak Street, Nicholasville, KY, Sunday, November 29, 2020 between 5-7 PM. Services will be Monday, November 30, 2020 at 1:30 PM at the funeral home and will be live-streamed on the Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home Facebook page and YouTube channel. Burial following at Camp Nelson with military honors at 2:30 PM. Honoring him as pallbearers will be Larry “Buzz” Carpenter, Chad Hammond, Tommy Carter, Tom Daugherty, Tom Rohan, and Stephen Thomas. Should you have liked to attend Roger’s Service and cannot, call the Funeral Home at 859-885-4125 and we will place a white silk rose with your name on it to give to the family after the service.
