Born in 1847 in Frederick County, Maryland.
Died in Washington D. C. on 2 April 1923

On 9 August 1875 he enlisted in Co. E of the 7th U.S. Cavalry. He will ill and no present at the Battle of the Little Big Horn where along with so many others, Co E, known as the "Gray Horse" troop, since they all were riding gray horses was annihilated that day under the command of Algernon Smith.

Prior to the military he had been a clerk.
