François de Lorraine, 2.Duc de Guise, was the son of Claude de Lorraine, Duc de Guise, and his wife, Antoinette de Bourbon. He was married at St.Germain-en-Laye on December 4, 1548 to Anne d'Este, Comtesse de Gisors, Dame de Montargis, with whom he had issue.

He was interred in the ancestral burial ground of his family at the Collégiale Saint-Laurent in Joinville. This structure was completely destroyed during the French Revolution and his ashes and those of his other family members were interred in 1792 in the Cimetière Chapelle Sainte Anne.
