A private graveside service for Betty Jo Flynn, 95, of Gainesville, will be held December 4, 2020 at the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home with Dr. Eddie Hadlock officiating. Betty will lie in state at the funeral home on Thursday, December 3, 2020 for public viewing.

Betty was born on December 12, 1924 in Brown County and grew up in Grosvenor, TX. On February 14, 1943, she married Douglas F. Flynn. After several moves, in 1962 they settled their family in Gainesville.

Betty was a faithful Christian who loved God and her church. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gainesville where she was active in WMU, mission trips, visiting shut-ins, and serving in the prayer room.

Betty loved her family and was a wonderful mother. She loved sewing, making her daughters clothes from everyday dresses to special occasion dresses. She was a great cook and was employed at the Robert E. Lee Elementary School as the lunchroom manager. Betty loved reading. After her vision started failing her, she enjoyed her books on tape. Betty was a great friend, and enjoyed playing 42, and Pegs and Jokers.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Doug Flynn; daughter Debbie Mitchell; grandson Jeff Seay; sister June Carmichael and her husband Claude; sister Allene Davis and her husband Morris Davis.

She is survived by her daughter Sandy Tower and her husband Tom; daughter Kathy Seay and her husband Jerry; daughter Susie Hutchison and her husband Terry; son-in-law Mark Mitchell; grandchildren Rob Seay and wife Kim, Sara Wardrup, Amy Wardrup, Chad Mitchell, Scott Hutchison and wife Melissa; Chris Mitchell and wife Terri; David Hutchison and wife Michelle; Kelly Schrader and husband Drew; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother Grady Chastain and his wife Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews.
