Annette Beverly Jones, 93, of Hartwood passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton, VA where she has lived since 2017. Born in Clintwood, VA, Mrs. Jones and her family moved to Hartwood when she was 7 years old. She is survived by her three children, Thomas A. Jones (Sybil) of Reedville, VA, Linda J. Powell of Hartwood, VA and S. Jamie Jones (Karen) of South Dakota. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Barbara B. Hill (John) of Rhodesville, VA, Patricia B. Curtis (Donald) and 1 brother Kerry W. Beverly both of Hartwood, VA as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen J. Jones, Jr, her Son in law, David H. Powell, parents, Curtis R. and Gertrude McFall Beverly, 3 brothers, William J., James L and Jerry R. Beverly and 1 Sister Helen B. Douglas.

She was very active in numerous organizations including the Falmouth High School Alumni, Eastern Star, Disabled American Veterans and several business organizations pertaining to real estate. She founded Southern Virginia Land Corporation and was very proud of her accomplishments, one of which was the sale of the farm land now known as the Spotsylvania Mall. In her real estate career, her specialty was very large tracks of land such as Fawn Lake and many others. Having a helicopter land in the front yard on a Sunday morning with some investors eager to walk hundreds of acres was a normal event in her life. She was one of, if not the first woman to sit on the Stafford County Planning Commission during the 60's. During her time in that position, the Rocky Run Reservoir was "put on the books" and has just recently come to fruition. Her experience and knowledge in the real estate world caused her to excel in a "man's world." One of her famous quotes before it became a catch phrase was "Stafford County is becoming a bedroom community for Washington, D.C."

She and her late husband, Steve, enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. They traveled all over the United States including Mexico and Canada and most states in-between. They wintered in Florida and enjoyed their home in Reedville, VA during the summer where they retired in 1987. While at the bay, they enjoyed boating, crabbing and lots of neighborhood gatherings which, most of the time, included home grown blue grass music.

Annette was known for her stylishness and ever-present business approach in all matters. She was very competitive and loved BINGO at Blue Ridge where the winnings were miniature chocolate candy bars. Once she won she would give away her winnings or share them with her friends.

If you have a story to share about Annette, please email them to [email protected] by Wednesday morning where they will be shared as part of her service.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Blue Ridge Christian Home, 7034 Catlett Road, Bealeton, VA 22712.
