Joan Frances, the only child of Lillian Luverne Redlich and Raymond Francis Thompson, was born on June 20, 1930 in Minneapolis. She died on November 27, 2019.

She lived in Minneapolis and attended Washburn High School, but her summers were often spent with her grandparents in the Brainerd-Nisswa area at their resort, the Cee-es-ta.

One of her favorite early jobs was working for Eleanor Nolan, a prominent Brainerd attorney, who was the first female judge in the state of Minnesota. Later, Joan was a business partner with her husband, Tom Scheurer, at the Greyhound bus depot in Brainerd.

Nature, German Shepherds, and books were among her favorite things. A serious student, Joan earned a college degree in social work from St. Cloud State University and another in library science from Bemidji State University.

Her last years were spent living with her daughter Patricia in Georgia, in Brainerd, Champlin and her final residence in Stillwater.

Preceding her in death were her beloved grandparents, Dula Davis and Frederick Redlich; her mother and father; stepfather Bill Orvala; as well as her son Michael Mahoney (1988), and daughter Patricia Mahoney Harley (2018).

Joan is survived by her children Timothy Mahoney, Stephen Lubovich (Barbara Kliever), and Andrea Lee Lambrecht (Robert Crabb). Grandchildren Chad Nelson, Sarah (John McCluskey) and Sean Mahoney; Johanna (Scott) Seabolt, April (Bradford) Chu, Robert, Michael, David, Annemarie and John Paul Harley; Alissa, Megan, Steve, Mark (Josie) and Kevin Mahoney; Maglina Lubovich (Beau Erickson) and Jandra Lubovich (Kysa); and Mariah Lee Lubovich Crabb.

And ten great grandchildren: Elena Mahoney; Jace and Christian Seabolt; Sicily and Vivienne Mahoney-McCluskey; Ramona Chu; Juri, Sasha, and Marko Lubovich; and Milica Lubovich.

A Celebration of Joan's Life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 20 at Nelson - Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Joan's family invites you to join them as they share memories and honor her life. A graveside service will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
