NOTE: The birth YEAR for George should be 1860. Early census records, specifically 1860, show George to be a newborn. In the census years of 1870, 1880 and 1900 show birth in the 1860's. It isn't until the 1910 census that the year of birth shows 1857.


George Wyrick was the 5th of nine children born to Solomon and Elizabeth Mary (nee Martin) Wyrick.


George married Rhoda Jane Jones on Aug. 14, 1882, in Benton, Arkansas. His wife Rhoda passed between 1890 and 1899. There were three children born to this union before her death:


  1. Lillie May Wyrick, b. 1883
  2. Elizabeth Rhoda Wyrick, b. 1886
  3. Georgia Ann Wyrick, b. 1890


George married his second wife, an Ottawa Indian, Mrs. Lula Pearl (nee Robitaille) Propeck on Dec. 20, 1899 in Miami, Oklahoma. She had a son, Roy Allen, from her first marriage that George raised as his own.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Friends Church with the Rev. Leslie Moore of Miami officiating for George Wyrick, 80 years old, a resident of East Side district for many years. He died Monday afternoon at the Miami Baptist Hospital. A sextet composed of Ruby Franks, Mack Webb, Marie Jackson, Clarenelle Paden, Genevieve Lacy and Leroy White sang "Where We'll Never Grow Old", and "Yes, Jesus Cares." Survivors: his widow, Mrs. Lula Wyrick, seven daughters, Mrs. T.F. Cole, Mrs. Charles Epps and Mrs. Georgia Hayes of Miami, Sally Wright of Wyandotte, Mrs. Katherine Phelps of Commerce and Teeni Thomas of Baxter Springs, four sons, Ray Wyrick of Baxter Springs, Wolferd Wyrick of Chetopa and Homer Wyrick of Wyandotte, four sisters, Mrs. Parline McGinty of Westville, Oklahoma Mrs. Susie Crippen of Bartlesville, Okla., Mrs. Sollie Walden of Rush, Okla., and Mrs. Addie Walden of Washburn, Mo., and three brothers, Andy Wyrick of Wyandotte, John and Tom Wyrick of Miami.
