Larry joined The Army National Guard where he served his country proudly for seven years until he was honorably discharged in February 1979 as a Specialist Four E-4. He made his career as an automotive machinist where he worked at United Engine Specialists for 23 years until he started his own business in Eureka, KS: Hilltop Machine Shop. Larry was a consummate builder making steam punk lamps, metal sculptures and many other unique creations. He loved classic cars and motorcycles and spent his free time restoring both including his favorite 1962 Chevy Impala. He entered many car shows where he won multiple trophies for his cars and motorcycles and enjoyed participating in Car Clubs and Motorcycle Clubs. He rode his “Hondian” with the Bikers Against Child Abuse and the Patriot Guard Riders to represent both children and veterans.
On October 1, 1993, he married Susan (Voorhees) in Linville, NC. During those 27 years, they enjoyed many vacations and adventures that included scuba diving, motorcycles trips, hiking, camping and boating. In 2007, Larry, Susan and son, Nicco moved to a lake house in Cookson, OK and Larry retired to enjoy many lake activities and school and sports activities with Nicco.
Larry is preceded in death by his mother, Bernadine (Schlicher) Zane, his father, Harold Wade, and his grandparents, John Ernest and Cora Schlicher Rossel (step grandmother) and Gladys Carter and Herman and Gertrude (step grandmother) Forsberg. Larry’s memory will live on with his wife, Susan, his son Nicco, daughter Shandon Gurley (Dallas Crouch), stepsons Montano Ysidro, (Yvette), Greggory Owings and Scott Owings (Melanie) and stepdaughter Kali Kerr (Marcus Feaster). Sisters Debbie Wade and Jacquetta McMullen (Terry) and brothers Clark Wade (Cindy), Ronnie Zane (Michelle) and Danny Zane as well as 6 grandchildren, 16 step grand children and 2 step great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service in Larry’s shop at 28695 S Big Hollow Road in Park Hill on Saturday, December 12th at 2:00 pm.
