Mrs. Hannah Spurrell Martin, 84, died at home on 12 Nov 2019 surrounded by family. Born in Trinity, Newfoundland on 25 Nov 1934 to Edmund and Ethel Spurrell, she lived in Labrador, Tacoma WA, McGuire AFB NJ, Williamsport PA, before moving to Huntsville in 1973 upon the retirement of her husband from the US Air Force. Huntsville became her home and she passed at home as she desired.
Hannah enjoyed providing for her family and her community. She would sew, knit, and tat clothes, blankets and home decor for her children and friends. She was very involved in knitting newborn caps for infants in the Huntsville Hospital NICU. She delivered meals as part of the Meal on Wheels program, stuffed envelopes for Crisis Services of North Alabama, and participated in in-school fingerprint-ing through the Senior Center. Hannah was a member of the Altar Guild at St. Charles Anglican Church. She was an avid collector of porcelain dolls and enjoyed traveling with her friend Fanny May Bowers and the Senior Center Line Dancers.
In addition to caring for her family, Hannah worked at the Commissary and PX on Redstone Arsenal.
Hannah was married to Donald Martin in Tacoma WA on 6 April, 1963.
She is survived by her children Bonnie Osmer (husband Wesley - deceased), Wendy Delnero, Edwin Martin (wife Teresa), and Stanley Martin (wife Kay). Her grandchildren are Donald, Shyla, Michael, Katherine, Martin, Sarah, Cory, and Lily. Her great-grandchildren are Kaitlyn, Lilly, Cannon, and Anniston. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces Gerald, Irene, Chris, Felicity, Arlene, Darlene, and Gilbert and her friends Fanny May and Elfriede Duke.
Hannah was predeceased by her husband Donald, son Rick, parents Edmund and Ethel, brothers Tom Spurrell (and wife Margaret) and Stanley Spurrell, sister Sylvia Hiscock, and niece Jackie Locke.
Visitation will be at 12:00pm on Thursday, 14 Nov 2019 with funeral service at 1:00pm at St. Charles Anglican Church. Interment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens beside her husband. The officiant will be the Rev. Byron Purvis.
Memorial donations can be made to Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center/Meals on Wheels or Cri-sis Services of North Alabama.
