James Derrill Cody, 82, of Norman, OK, passed away peacefully on Nov. 23, 2020. He was born on July 5, 1938, in Ada, OK. In 1963, he married Serelda Gay Kneeland, of Seminole, in Oklahoma City, OK.
Derrill grew up in Coal County and graduated from Coalgate High School in Coalgate, OK. After high school, he graduated from East Central University in Ada and The University of Oklahoma College of Law. He spent the majority of his career working in the oil and gas industry. He was Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the Kerr-McGee Corporation and President and CEO of Texas Eastern Corporation.
Derrill served as a Regent at Seminole State College and also served on several Boards of Directors, including Barrett Resources Corporation, CenterPoint Energy, DCP Midstream GP, L.L.C, Plains Petroleum Company and TEPPCO Partners. Derrill was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association.
Derrill loved the Oklahoma Sooners and was a season ticket holder for over 50 years. He was also an avid golfer and reader. He loved to read spy and suspense novels.
Derrill is survived by his children and their spouses, Jeff and Jenifer Cody and Kendal and Scott Stegmann; his grandchildren, Sam and Morgan Cody and Chloe and Sofia Stegmann; and his siblings, Bob Strunk, Guy Strunk, and Martha Roberts. Derrill also is survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Selma Strunk; and his wife, Serelda Gay Cody.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
