Charlie passed away quietly at home on November 23, 2020 after a brief illness, with family at his side. He was born in 1925, in El Dorado, AR to Dallas Netha Burgess and Frances America Samford Burgess. He was a graduate of Gaston (TX) High School, attended Kilgore College, and earned his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Texas. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. After graduating from college, he went to work at Sun Oil Company, where he met his future wife, Billie Joyce (BJ) Prejean. He stayed with Sun Oil throughout his career, rising to the level of Vice President of Telecommunications prior to his retirement. Charlie was a dedicated member of Arapaho United Methodist Church, and over the years had volunteered his time and talents to many organizations, including Network of Community Ministries, Gaston Museum, and First Richardson Helpers. Charlie was a devoted friend to many people. He enjoyed golf, fishing, games with his family, telling stories, and Longhorn football. His loving and generous nature and his unfailing smile will be missed by all who knew him. Charlie is survived by his sister, Shirley Potz-Nielsen; son Keith Burgess and his wife Jean Richards, son Wayne Burgess, all of Richardson, TX; daughter Kim Holland and her husband Brenner of Overland Park, KS; beloved grandchildren Daniel Burgess, Julie Reddoch and her husband Matthew, Thomas Burgess, and Payton, Mason, and Makenna Holland; and great-grandson Elijah Reddoch. Charlie is preceded in death by his wife BJ Burgess, sister Lynell Suggs, and cherished friend Bev Richardson. Due to the pandemic, a memorial service will be scheduled next year. A private interment will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Grand Prairie, TX.
