Mary Lou Zimmerman, 70, of Centralia passed away Thursday, November 26, 2020 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on August 19, 1950 the daughter of Rev. Dale C. and Freda (Johnson) Bennett in Vandalia, IL. She married Roger D. Zimmerman on September 19, 1966 in Patoka, IL. and 3 sons were born of this union, they later divorced.

Survivors include her beloved sons, Kurtis Zimmerman of Centralia, Jeff Zimmerman and wife Tara of Centralia, Ryan Zimmerman and wife Janie of Centralia; treasured grandchildren, Eric Zimmerman, Adrienne Roberts and husband Dexter, Payton Lou Zimmerman, Jace Zimmerman, Cole Tucker, Dylon Zimmerman, Jon Wright, Jacob Zimmerman and wife Cheyanne, James Dale Zimmerman; precious great-grandchildren, Umphreys, Callie Jo, and Jude; loving sister, Carolyn Willner, and dear sister-in-law, Linda Boyles.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by both of her parents, Rev. Dale and Freda Bennett.

Mamma Lou was not just her name to her sons, even their friends knew her as Mamma Lou. Mary Lou touched a lot of people. She had a way of making everyone feel special. Mary Lou was a loyal employee at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She worked in the Business office and earned the Ambassador of the year award. She was known for being the holiday angel in her home. From her great cooking to her decorations, memories were always made at Mamma Lou’s house. She was a devout Christian following in the faith that her parents instilled in her and she passed on to her sons. She was always a classy, and trendy dressed lady that enjoyed shopping. Mary Lou had a green thumb and had beautiful plants that she enjoyed sharing with her loved ones. Mary Lou’s crowning achievement was being a grandma and great-grandma as she loved her grandchildren with all her heart. Nothing made her smile wider than hearing her grandchildren call out Grandma Lou. Her love and generosity will carry on in all the ones she knew and loved.

A celebration of life service will be held privately, Tuesday, December 1, 2020 with Pastor Matt Shook officiating. Memorials may be made in Mary Lou’s honor to the family’s wishes.
