Cecil W. Barnes was the 3rd of 9 children of Armstead L. Barnes and Inez G. Dickerson Barnes who are buried at Star Cemetery located 5 miles north in Harvey County.

Cecil married Annie D. Christensen on Feb. 17, 1895 at the home of the bride's father, Frederick Christensen, in Mount Hope, Kansas. The ceremony was performed by at 5 o'clock by Rev. F. A. Bodwell.

Anna's parents were from Denmark and she came with her parents to the Mount Hope area in 1879. Cecil and Anna started their married life farming the land previously occupied by Mr. Baker, located east of Mount Hope.

The 1915 Kansas State Census shows the Cecil Barnes family farming 100 acres of corn, 10 acres of alfalfa, 176 acres of pasture, 4 horses, 2 milk cows, 2 other cattle and 5 swine.

Cecil and Anna had 3 children;

1. Adelaide Dorothea Barnes, married Harry Lester Hickok. They resided in Wichita, Kansas.
2. Marguerite Inez Barnes, married Fred Dow. They resided in Mount Hope, Kansas.
3. Daisy Opal Barnes, married to Mark A, Moorman. They resided in Miami, Florida and Michigan City, Indiana.

Cecil died at the age of 68 on July 8, 1940 at their farm near Mount Hope following a lingering illness. Annie lived on that farm until 1945 when she moved into the town of Mount Hope.
