Husband of: 1. Mary (Ingham) Thayer and 2. Ella (Edwards) Thayer.

Showed up in Michigan in 1870 census in Sandstone, Jackson Co. Michigan. By 1880 he was up in Arbela, Tuscola Co. Michigan. In the 1880 census his mother Sarah (born in 1805 in Vermont) was listed as a widow and living with him. He also had a niece Nellie Skulley living with him.

NOTE:

Charles E. Thayer who married Ella Edwards, was born Charles E. Russell. His mother was first married to a Thayer and married 2nd a Mr. Russell. The second marriage for Sarah happened after the census of 1850 and her husband Mr. Russell died by the 1855 census so I haven't been able to find a first name for him. Sarah Russell was found in the 1860 census with two daughters and Charles born to Mr. Russell along with her son Samuel Thayer. By the census of 1870 Charles adopted the name Thayer and was found in Jackson Co., MI single and farm laborer. By 1880 his mother moved to Michigan and she too was using her first married name of Thayer. This family was first in Verona, Oneida Co., NY. Charles ended up in Tuscola Co., MI and later in Bay City Michigan.
