According to her obituary in the September 24, 1942 Poughkeepsie Eagle News, Mary Devitt Berry was the daughter of Edward and Mary Ann Edwards Devitt of North Augusta, Ontario, Canada.

She was the widow of James Berry and had lived in Poughkeepsie for 25 years, working at Vassar Hospital for over 20 years. She was survived by a daughter Anna.
