Julia "Agnes" Holland, 90, of 3410 Ridgeway St., died Friday morning, Sept. 28, 2007, after a lengthy illness.

She was born May 17, 1917, in Butte, the daughter of Jerry and Honora "Nora" Harrington. Agnes attended St. Mary's Grade School and Butte Business College. Agnes married Maurice "Maury" Holland on Dec. 2, 1944, in St. Patrick's Church. Maury re-enlisted in the Air Force and Agnes became a military wife. In 24 years, the family made 23 complete moves. Agnes saw the world but never forgot home. When her husband retired, Agnes came home to Butte for good and never wanted to leave again. Agnes was a wife, mother, and bookkeeper, all of which were done with excellence. She worked at Pat Mahagin's Gas Station, George Steele & Company, St. James Hospital and Christie Furniture Store. When she retired, she traveled with her husband for pleasure, but her passions were gardening and grandkids. She enjoyed the outings with the Knights of Columbus wives and family gatherings of all kinds. Our mother was a truly gentle and gracious woman and we will all miss her smile.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Maurie; parents, Jerry and Nora; brothers, Joseph and Jerry Harrington; and sister, Mary Hannifin.

Surviving relatives include her sons and daughters-in-Iaw, M. Joseph and Juliette Holland, Abu Dhabi, Thomas J. and Kaye Holland, Butte; daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and John Powers of Butte; grandchildren, Deborah and Kent Miyake, David and Aja Holland, Dane Holland and Tatum Holland; great-grandchild, Annabelle Holland; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Oliver Steele; sister-in-law, Constance "Connie" Harrington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Ann's Church. Entombment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Memorials are requested by the family to Highlands Hospice Patsy O'Neill compassionate care fund.
