H. H. "Shorty" Buckles, Sr., 85, retired Pumper of Illinois Central RR, of Caneyville, died December 20, 1983 at his residence. / He was born March 5, 1899 in Hardin County, the son of James Robert Buckles and Belle Bowles Buckles, and the husband of Nettie Taylor Buckles. He was a member of the Caneyville Masonic Lodge for 30 years, and also a member of the Caneyville Christian Church. / Survivors other than his wife include two sons Dr. J. R. Buckles of Caneyville, and Henry Hugh Buckles, Jr. of Leitchfield; one daughter Louise Beasley of Caneyville; one brother Robert S. Buckles of Big Clifty; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. / Private family services were held at the Dermitt Chapel by Bro. David Brown with interment in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.
