Lowell G. Anderson, 96, of Park Rapids, MN passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
Lowell was born on October 28, 1924 in Newfolden, MN the son of Pearnel and Tillie Anderson. He grew up in Newfolden, graduating from High School in 1943. Following graduation he was drafted into the Army. He trained as a Medic and was sent overseas to France in 1944 and was discharged in May 1946. He attended Moorhead State Teacher’s College from 1946-1950, receiving a B.S. degree in Math and Physical Education. Prior to graduation Lowell was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Lois Green, on October 30, 1948. They returned to Newfolden to begin his teaching and coaching career in 1950. In 1955 they moved with their children to Park Rapids where he taught Advanced Math, set up the first computers, was head basketball coach and assistant football coach until his retirement in 1981. Lowell continued his involvement in High School sports by being a MSHSL official, refereeing basketball and football. From 1974-1989 he managed the Headwaters Country Club.
Lowell enjoyed his summers at his cabin on Big Sand Lake and winters were spent in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He enjoyed hunting and developed 40+ years of relationships at “Bob’s Creek” Deer Camp. He had a tradition of 63 straight years of fishing at Lake of the Woods with the same 4 families which continued into the 4th generation. Golf was a big part of his life. He spent many hours on the course playing a round with wonderful friends. He was a very dedicated teacher and coach and touched many lives and was respected by all. He was kind, generous, quiet and a soft-spoken man with many accomplishments. Most of all, he loved his family and shared a special bond with his grandson Cory.
Lowell was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 212 and was honored with a 70-year certificate in 2016. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church since 1955. His deep and abiding faith was an important part of his life.
Lowell will be remembered by son, Jeff (Kathy) Anderson of Park Rapids; daughter, Connie (Bill) Brock of Champlin, MN; grandson, Cory (Courtney) Brock of Walker, MN; great grandchildren, Parker and Haylie Brock of Walker.
His life was forever changed at the death of his soul mate and wife of 61 years, Lois, in 2009. He was preceded in death by wife, Lois; daughter, Mary Jane Anderson; his parents, Pearnel and Tillie Anderson; and brothers, Mike and Ray Anderson.
Because of Covid restrictions, there will be a private family service with plans for a celebration of Lowell’s life at a later date. He left an amazing legacy.
The family suggests memorials be given to the Park Rapids Education and Activities Foundation in memory of coach Anderson. Arrangements by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids. Friends may leave online condolences at ceasefuneralhome.com
