Roland is a veteran of the Korean war. He was a navy radio operator on the USS Taussig and was at the radio when word came of the start of the war. After returning from the navy, he met and married Yvonne and attended BYU. He was then called to serve a mission in the Northwestern States Mission. After graduating from BYU, he taught history and geography for a year in Dragerton, Utah. The rest of his career was spent teaching at American Fork High School. Shortly after he started working at AF High, he and his wife purchased a one-story home in Manila, which was later incorporated into Pleasant Grove. As his family grew so did the house. With the help of his family, he added two more stories using mostly repurposed materials. During time off in the summer he kept fruit trees and a large garden that helped sustain their 10 children. He and his wife's resourcefulness and hard work not only helped them raise 10 children but also taught those children the same values.
After retiring, Roland volunteered in various roles with family history including consultant and family history center director. He also served a family history mission with Yvonne to Leeds England. He loved and admired his wife very much. After her death 11 years ago, he wanted to ensure that all his posterity knew he cared for them. He kept careful records of their birthdays and was sure to send them his homemade cards for their birthday. Each year he also created a calendar using family photos or his own photography. This calendar had his posterities' birthday and anniversaries. He would send copies out each Christmas.
[Living individuals names omitted] He was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne and siblings Clyde, T Lawrence, Nada Davies, Virginia Peterson and Gineal Stott.
