He was born December 31, 1933 in Kendall, New York to his late parents, Mae and Menzo Butler.
He graduated from Kendall Central School in 1951. He went on to attend Alfred State Technical Institute, graduating with a degree in applied sciences. He was employed by Eastman Kodak in the Naval Ordinance Division and worked on the “Spy in the Sky”. He served in the U.S. Army as a SP 3C in Germany from 1955-1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Bancroft) Butler, in Frankfurt, Germany on March 2nd and 3rd. Harry returned to the states where he resumed working for Eastman Kodak. He continued his education graduating from the University of Rochester with a degree in Political Science.
Harry had a zest for life. He enjoyed living on the original Butler farm property, outdoor activities, reading, shopping, watching sports, and spending time with family even when it meant driving to California to be with two of his daughters. He loved being involved in politics, was a proud Democrat and served two terms on the Kendall Town Board. Using his various chainsaws to groom his trees was his favorite pastime. He and his wife are known for their love of dancing together and have been referred to as “Fred” and “Ginger”.
