Shirley L. Stitt, Charles Hoover Are Married

Miss Shirley Louise Stitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Dale Stitt, Newville R.D. 2, became the bride of Charles LeRoy Hoover, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mac L. Hoover, of Newville R.D. 2, June 3 at 2 p.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, Newville.

Rev. Walter D. Guss performed the double-ring ceremony. George C. Houck, Newville, sang. Mrs. George Wagner Jr., Shippensburg, was organist.

The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a floor-length gown of silk mist and French lace. The bodice, accented with lace, was trimmed with pearls and iridescent sequins and featured short sleeves and a Sabrina neckline. The bouffant skirt was designed with garlands of lace appliques and a butterfly pouf in the back, with silk mist roses which cascaded into a chapel train.

The bride's French illusion pouf bouffant veil fell from a queen's crown of lace trimmed with pearls and iridescent sequins. Her cascade bouquet was centered with lavender orchid. Her only jewelry was a pair of pearl earrings, a gift from the bridegroom.

Mrs. Robert E. Smith, Shippensburg R.D. 1, was matron of honor. She wore a floor-length beige and orchid embroidered Schiffli gown, with shaped bodice, wide V-neckline, and short sleeves. The full skirt had inverted pleats at center front, pleats on either side, and a pleated godet in back, which was accented with cabbage roses. The godet, roses, and Mrs. Smith's headpiece (a large bow with a cabbage rose and a circular veil) were of celadon green. Mrs. Smith carried a fan bouquet in appropriate colors.

Bridesmaids were Miss Sylvia Stabnau, New York; Misses Emma Jane and Susan Ruth, Shippensburg, cousins of the bride, and Mrs. J. Edward Clouse, Newville. Nancy Shuman Camp Hill, cousin of the bridegroom, and Carol Loy, Carlisle, were junior bridesmaids.

The bridesmaids' gowns were styled similarly to the gown worn by the matron of honor but in shades of light lavender and orchid Schiffli embroidery. Misses Stabnau, Emma Jane Ruth and Nancy Shuman wore gowns accented with plum-colored godets and roses and wore plum headpieces. Miss Loy and Miss Susan Ruth wore gowns accented in orchid. Each bridesmaid carried a fan bouquet and wore a necklace with a single cultured pearl and six saffites, a gift from the bride.

Juli-an Lov and Vicki Boisvert, both of Carlisle, were flower girls. They wore full-length sleeveless orchid gowns, with wide collars, round in front and ending in a V in the back. The gowns had full skirts and large butterfly sashes.

The girls wore clip headbands with real flowers and carried miniature fan bouquets which matched their gowns. Each wore a gift from the bride, a necklace with a rhinestone heart and cultured pearl.

The attendants' gowns were designed and made by Mrs. Walter Z. Loy, Carlisle, a cousin of the bride, and were gifts from the bride to her attendants.

The bride's mother wore a light blue lace sheath dress with a shawl-collared short jacket. The bridegroom's mother was dressed in light blue shantung. Both wore white accessories and white orchid corsages.

Roger A. Hoover, Newville R.D. 2, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Donald Drexler, Newville, cousin of the bride; Paul Martin, Carlisle; James Clifford, Los Angeles; Robert Smith, Shippensburg R.D. 1, and Barry Hoover, Newville, brother of the bridegroom.

The ring-bearer was Edwin Hoover, Newville, cousin of the bridegroom. Stephen Shuman, Camp Hill, cousin of the bridegroom, and Daryl Griffie, Newville, were acolytes.

A reception was held in the church social room following the ceremony. The couple will live on Newville R.D. 2 after June 18.

The bride, a graduate of Big Spring High School, class of 1956, is employed in the sales department of the Carlisle Tire and Rubber Division.
