Gerald W. Long, 81, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020 in his home.
Gerald William Long was born to Edgar and Bessie (McKinney) Long in Harvey Township, ND, on February 6, 1939. He grew up in the rural Langdon, ND, area and worked on several farms around the area from a young age. On December 16, 1961 he married Gloria Jean MacDowall and worked for several different construction companies before retiring from Haugen Masonry.
Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching the FM Redhawks and NASCAR, spending time with family and especially his grandkids. Gerald’s family was never short of projects to keep him busy and he loved to use his construction skills to help in any way he could.
He is survived by his wife; children, Douglas (Dawn) Long, Lori (Michael) Gilbertson and Billy (Chrissy) Long; grandchildren, Matt, Andrew (Lori) and Jessica Long, Brandon, Nicholas and Shelby (Kelly Jacobson) Gilbertson (with great-grandson Jacobson on the way), Sophia and Lewis Long; brother, Marvin (Carol) Long and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mary Ann Porter, Donald Long, Betty Christianson and Robert Long.
A private family service will be held with a livestream available here on Gerald’s page at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.
The burial will take place at 12:00 PM following the service at Prairie Home Cemetery, Moorhead, MN, and will be open to the public.
