C. W. Acuff, a traveling salesman for the Nashville Nursery Company, died at the Thompson House, Birmingham, Alabama from the effects of an overdose of laudanum, Sunday afternoon.

Whether his death was accidental, or whether the drug was taken with suicidal intent, is not known, perhaps never will be.

The Birmingham News, in an account of the affair, says Acuff came to Birmingham about three weeks ago. He was accompanied by his wife and three children.

In her statement to a News Reporter, Mrs. Acuff said, "that her husband was in the habit of taking small doses of laudanum to ease pains in his head." About 8 o'clock Saturday, Mr. Acuff informed her that he had taken a dose of the drug, and that as he was feeling badly, he thought he would retire. Her husband grew very much worse about 10 o'clock and the services of a physician were secured. Though everything possible was done for Mr. Acuff he died about 5 o'clock Sunday morning.

Acuff was about 35 years of age, and lived in Lynnville, Tenn., where he is said to have been a member of a prominent family..
